Rushing back to work, stressed from multiple school drop-offs and pick ups, I, still, decided to stop and grab a 2 pc special from church chicken. I was grateful for the Tuesday special because it was just what I needed since all funds had been spent on gas, kids school and food for the house...which still wasn't enough.
Relieved, that I finally, remembered to grab the bite on the Tuesday, I approached the window, ordered the 2 pc and was told to move forward. At the window, the clerk was so nice and full of energy. Although, you could tell she was new and had experienced "life",
few missing teeth, sun damaged skin -but all with a beautiful smile. Just before paying for food, I asked "how much to add a biscuit?" The young lady, tallied and said "1.37." Strangely enough, I had $1.30 on my card. Realizing the balance I told her "all good, I'll pass." She, kind heartedly, said "here, I got ya." To which I replied, "aww thanks."
Just then, the manager at the counter heard the clerk and yelled from the counter "where my biscuit at.? She cancelled her biscuit, so where my biscuit?" The clerk looking shocked,
the patrons at the inside counter seemingly shamed, and, myself, confused at the confusion.
The clerk responded again, "its good, I have it." The manager, looking like an agent of satan, frowned and immediately told her "i want my biscuit" as if it was a piece of gold.
I told the clerk, saddened by her embarrassment, that it was "ok" and "thanks for your heart."
Why am I sharing this? Few reasons.
1) NEVER GET SO HIGH THAT YOU CANT LOOK IN ANOTHERS EYE!!!
I remember growing up having EVERYTHING. Two closets full of clothes and shoes. Sharing with others who were less fortunate whenever in need. Growing up modeling and being able to receive custom items all the time, able to go weeks, if not, months, without wearing the same items. NO MATTER HOW MUCH WE HAD, my mother would always drill to me to be mindful of how I treat people.
You don't know how and why they got to the point of not having. And at the point of someone's need it is NEVER our job You can be up today and down TODAY! Not only that, I was perceived as not having, when in all, honesty, I just didn't have my wallet!! But the managers pride and personal need to be seen and exert power, left to only see and older (to her) woman who couldn't afford a biscuit! (shameful in her eyes)
2) NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY THE COVER! BUT KNOW THE GENRE BY THE WORDING!!
Clearly, the lady at window had experienced "life". My bio mom was teen mom, adopted, betrayed and unaware, trafficked by her brothers, disowned by her family, prostitute, crack addict, victim of AIDS, died at 38---Thats how she was seen, but she was a beautiful, loving, kind Earth Angel, who only wanted LOVE AND TO FEEL VALUE--- she wanted to mother me, but didn't know how. She wanted to live life, but didn't know how since hers seemed like a lie--and much was. But so often, we look at the outer appearance of each other and NEVER attempt to "see" them. There is where we prove blind!!
3)NEVER ALLOW A MOMENTARY CIRCUMSTANCE TO DETERMINE YOUR EARTHLY & ETERNAL DESTINY. ITS MEANT TO BE APART OF THE JOURNEY, NOT THE TOTALITY OF YOUR EXISTANCE. This is where "YOU" come in. Pick yourself up. See at that window, I had a few options: 1) I could have transferred money from my "DO NOT TOUCH--SAVE FOR RAINY DAY ACCOUNT." --Which would have caused me to compromise my personal integrity just to prove a point to someone who is , obviously, ignorant, immature and so full of pride --probably due to hurt--and took away from something MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN A biscuit!
2) I could have matched her ignorance, which I'm sure she expected and is used too. Based on how she treated the clear, she is clearly used to bullying those she feels is less than her.
I'm in law enforcement, naturally matching her, causing a disturbance and calling police is definitely in reach---BUT SO TOTALLY IGNORANT ON MY PART AND NOT NECESSARY.
NEVER ALLOW SOMEONE ELSE TO MAKE YOU THE SOURCE THEIR ENTERTAINMENT. UNSUBSCRIBE!!
3)PERSPECTIVE IS EVERYTHING. GOD told me earlier that day (unbeknownst of this situation) that "OUR KINDNESS TOWARDS OTHERS IS AN INVESTMENT, INSURANCE & LAY-A-WAY for great things. The world says it like this "what goes around comes around." The BIBLE says it this way "GIVE AND "IT" WILL COME BACK TO YOU. GOOD MEASURE PRESSED DOWN SHAKEN TOGETHER AND RUNNING OVER." "IT" is whatever you give. So the clerk, in her effort to do a good deed, will have "IT" come back to here when she needs. The manager will have "it" (her nasty prideful attitude & a need one day) to come back to her. No! I dont wish it upon her or anyone, but in the words of the older people "you gone have to see that again. keep living." Me? Well God used me to be a vessel to be available for the clerk to do a good deed and now its laid up for her. More importantly, its an opportunity to pray for them both. The clerk trying to get back on her feet and the manager who has some growing to do! Which we all do.
I'll always remember to stay humble, grateful and within a "biscuit budget"!
KEEP YOUR HEAD HIGH, REGARDLESS OF YOUR BACKGROUND, BUDGET, BETRAYALS & THE LIKE. PURIFY YOUR HEART SO YOU CAN SEE, OWN AND GROW FROM YOUR PART (IF ANY) IN THE GAME OF LIFE, AND BE PREPARED TO PASS THE NEXT TEST AND PASS ON THE NEXT LESSON!
I LOVE YOU!
